Resumo

One of the first steps in participative research, is, from requirements and motivations expressed by a sector of a community, the design and planification of a research project based on the ecological and social dimensions of their endogenous potential. Such potential is the starting point of a process which necessarily implies to establish symmetrical relations among the different actors involved in such process. Therefore, the knowledge (cognition) modes of each actor are in a condition of equality, so it is essential to create to the necessary conditions to allow this dialogue among these cognitions. The purpose of this study is to describe, in a schematic way, a methodology developed to establish (and/or diagnose) the potential of the bio-cultural diversity in rural communities (based on experiences carried out in Chile), through the articulation of research techniques developed by the natural and social sciences, so in this way make possible the integration of the cognition of the different actors involved in participative social research.
